Project Overview:

Checkmate Production is the portfolio website of Aaron Johnson, a freelance videographer and photographer based in Ayrshire and Glasgow. Aaron graduated with a BA Honours in TV and Radio Production from the University of the West of Scotland. The site brings his video and photography work together in one place, so potential clients can see what he does.

Client’s Needs and Objectives:

• Show the work: Documentary, interview, music and event projects, each with its own page.
• Video on the page: Films and interviews that play on the site, so visitors don’t have to leave it.
• A professional profile: About, CV and Work Experience pages for anyone looking to hire him.
• Protect the content: Clear terms on who owns the photos and videos and how they can be used.
• Easy to contact: A contact form for enquiries.

Key Features Implemented:

• Built with Divi 5: The site uses Divi 5, the rebuilt version of the Divi page builder.
• Home page slider: Featured projects, each linking to its full write-up.
• Portfolio grid: A masonry layout that loads more projects as visitors scroll.
• Embedded video: YouTube films and interviews, including two Ayr United interviews and the documentary Through The Lens of Richard Scott.
• Photography: Event and music photography, including Rock The Nile and Loud Clear Sessions.
• CV and Work Experience pages: His education and production experience, including work as a runner for BBC Scotland.
• Copyright terms: Terms and conditions covering ownership and permitted use of his photos and videos under UK copyright law.

Technology Used:

• WordPress for managing the content.
• Divi 5 for the design and page layouts.
• WP Masonry Infinite Scroll for the portfolio grid.
• YouTube for hosting and playing the videos.
