Real engaged time — counted only while the page is actually being used, and including the last page of a visit, which pageview-gap tools count as zero. Bot defence
Bots can visit. They can’t pollute.
Modern junk traffic doesn’t announce itself. It runs a real Chrome browser, rotates through clean VPN and datacenter IPs, and fakes a Google referrer — and most analytics tools count it as your most engaged reader.
